Elder Dragon is probably the most table-turning target available in League of Legends. When a team claims to be buffed, a match is essentially over as the losing team can only wait to see their health bar evaporate in the next teamfight.
In a clip posted to Reddit earlier today, a League the player uses Pantheon’s ultimate to rush in from halfway across the map and steal the Elder Dragon buff at the last possible moment.
In the clip, the Pantheon player begins using Grand Starfall (R), with the ultimate skill’s end point aimed directly at the center of the dragon pit. The opposing team had brought the Elder Dragon below 50% HP, and when the Pantheon player charged in, their arrival (second part of Grand Skyfall) did enough damage to receive a targeted shield on the dragon.
Thankfully for Pantheon’s team, the theft averted disaster as the opposing team had already secured four dragons and a Cloud Soul. Had they earned the Elder buff, the game would have most likely been out of reach.
However, when the Elder Dragon’s rights were in the possession of the Pantheon, all they had to do was clean up the remaining players in the dragon pit, who had done most of the work for them in the first place. The opposing team’s jungler and support — playing Diana and Blitzcrank — was instantly killed when Pantheon reached the dragon pit with a combination of Elder Dragon’s skills and cast effects.
From there, the Pantheon player makes a quick move to the last target in the fray – an Akshan player – to secure the ace and start pushing for the ultimate victory. Team Pantheon won the game, according to the Reddit post.
