Player’s Choice Award Winner of 2021!

2021 is an exciting year for games, especially MMORPGs. With so many expansions and full games this year, it’s hard to narrow everything down to a few awards, but we’ve definitely tried our best this year. We asked our readers to vote for this year’s Best of the Year Awards, and over 2000 of you responded to give your voice to our community awards. These are the winners.

GOTY Biggest disappointment

The biggest disappointment of 2021: New World

Runner-up: Activision Blizzard lawsuit

When New world Last released in September, many players have been looking to Amazon’s new MMO as the next great game in the genre. And while what we got was not terrible, it’s not nearly the intense MMO experience many people expect. Combine this with the fact that it seems every update or patch something in New world. From a rudimentary and repetitive quest system, bugs and exploits that threaten the very core of the experience and the draining game-ending process, New world certainly didn’t meet the hype that was too great for many. Thankfully, like many other MMOs that struggle outside the gate, New world resilient and stronger than ever. Time will surely tell.

Best Battle Royale of 2021: Apex Legends

Runner Up: Call of Duty: Warzone

Apex Legends took the current top spot in the Battle Royale awards for the third year in a row, and for good reason. In a year that has seen arenas, a new class of Marksman drops, a new map as well as more maps to help encourage more striking and dynamic gameplay, Top Be prepared for an outstanding 2022.

Most anticipated game of 2021: Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

Runner up: Lost beer keg

Pantheon: Rise of the Fall attention – so much so that this is the third year in a row that the community has voted it the most anticipated game. In a year that has seen Invest more in the Kingdom of the Visionary, the transition to a more open world, and most recently pulled the curtain back a bit on a new dungeon. What this means for 2022 remains to be seen, but hopefully temple will remove the pre-alpha shell and will eventually open alpha to backers (and more) here.

Best persistent online game of 2021: Path of Exile

Runner Up: Warframe

Road exile have dominated this category for the past few years, winning 30% of the total votes against the next closest title, Warframe (17.9% out of 2063 responses). The Diablo-The awe-inspiring MMOARPG is getting ready to head into 2022 with some breaths, having released their most recent expansion, Disaster back in October, and while we’re still waiting to know more about the sequel, Grinding Gear Games shows no signs of slowing down.

Most Improved MMORPG of 2021: Black Desert Online

Runner’s Up: Star Wars: the Old Republic

One of the MMOs that keeps seeing free updates while flying under the radar of many is Pearl Abyss’ Black Desert Online. 2021 sees not one but many classes released in Sage and Corsair, as well as the first co-op dungeon for the MMORPG, Atoraxxion. One layer rebalancing, as well as a new area – Mountain of Eternal Winter, coming to the MMORPG, between Black Desert going strong at the end of the year, especially with 300% increase in players this year alone.

Best indie game of 2021: Valheim

Runner up: Kena, Spirit Orb

Valheim create a cooperative relationship with gamers around the world, sold 5 million copies in its first few weeks, so it’s no surprise to see it standing here at the top of the first Best Indie Game award in our Players’ Choice poll. The Viking themed survival game has captured the minds of millions with its extremely unique art style, accessible approach to survival mechanics, yet challenging combat and boss fights. The game is also inspirational some amazing works from the community, and while updates have been slow since its initial release, the survival game feels poised to continue its success beyond its full launch.

Best RPG of 2021: Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Runner’s Up: Monster Hunter: Rise

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous brought back the Champion of the best role-playing game voted by players in 2021. Pathfinder is a phenomenal RPG (with an incredible character creator) that introduces more PC RPG fans to a game that top players know and little about. Pathfinder. Owlcat Games has created a huge and immersive world, filled with amazing stories and characters to keep players busy for hours. It is definitely one to check out in case you missed it.

Best MMORPG of 2021: Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker

Runner Up: The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood, Swords of Legends Online

Final Fantasy XIV feel like the natural winner of this award, five banners Square Enix has with its MMORPG. Become so popular that the developer must pull the game from saletwiceFinal Fantasy has completely dominated the MMORPG world in 2021. Endwalker, just released, by all accounts continued excellent storytelling And design Shadowbringers bring a few years back, and FFXIV shows no signs of slowing down with major updates and features already scheduled for early next year.
