PlatinumGames ‘Sol Cresta has been set for a release date of February 22

What a disappointment to see Sol Cresta was delayed last November. Vintage inspired photo shoot scheduled to come out in December but was delayed to account for the change in range. However, it turned out that the delay was not as significant as some feared. Developers PlatinumGames confirmed that the release date of Sol Cresta It will be February 22.

This was announced in a two-hour live stream on the official PlatinumGames YouTube channel. In addition to announcing the release date, the developer also showcased some key works, posters, and a series of special messages from different developers. That includes PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba, composer Yuzo Koshiro and even a guest from Drakengard creator Yoko Taro.

PlatinumGames has to be confident, as it didn’t choose an easy release window. Some games leading up to the February release date of Sol Cresta consists of Elden Ring, Dying Light 2 Stays In Humans, and King of Fighters XV. And that’s just the PC market. With PLegend of okemon: Arceus come to Switch and Forbidden Horizon in the West As for the PlayStation, it’s not even though the major consoles are missing upcoming titles.

Not a joke

Sol Cresta was first revealed as an April Fool’s Day joke. The Japanese developer created a great deal of hype around the Platinum4 announcement, which is vague enough for anyone to guess. Some gamers prayed for Bayonetta 3 details while others consider the prospect of a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance next part.

However, what we really get is Sol Cresta, the sequel to Terra Cresta, a vertical shooter from 1985, itself a sequel to the same game Moon Cresta released in 1980. I doubt many people saw that coming. Although it started out as a joke, it was later confirmed to be real.

It’s an odd idea, but there’s still a lot to be excited about. The trailers so far have showcased some fun gameplay, taking the classic space shooter formula and giving it a modern twist. It will be interesting to see what modern gamers think of such a fundamentally classic-inspired title.
