PlatinumGames CEO wants to explore different projects, tease more live service games

Last month, Kenichi Sato, the former CEO of popular developer PlatinumGames, resigned. Soon after, former VP PlatinumGames Atsushi Inaba take on Sato’s previous role. He’s a fitting replacement, considering Inaba served as the CEO of Clover Studio. To some, Clover was the spiritual forerunner of PlatinumGames and created Joe has a vision, Okamiand God’s Hand. And since the developers of PlatinumGames are well known for pushing the original game ideas and concepts, it looks like Inaba will have some ambitious plans of his own. In a nutshell, VGC reports that the new CEO of PlatinumGames wants to put out games larger range compared to the ones the company has released so far, and he even hinted that the studio will explore more of the live service model later. The Fall of Babylon.
While Inaba didn’t directly say that he wants to release more live-service games, he did express his desire to create games that players can enjoy “for a longer period of time.” “. He made this statement shortly after specifically mentioning Project GoogleThe latest work from director Hideki Kamiya and the first IP that PlatinumGames owns outright.
Change in priorities
Inaba aims to reassure fans of the studio’s more focused arcade-like games. He said that Platinum “wants to cherish and create small but wonderfully conceived games like Sol Crestaand games in which you can enjoy completing the game by going through well-designed, one-off stages such as Bayonetta. ”
But he noted that the gaming market has been and will continue to change dramatically over time. The studio will need to develop games with different structures to move beyond the “indie-class” origins and “return to the original PlatinumGames ethos”.
The plans put forward by the new CEO of PlatinumGames at least look interesting. Players will likely be especially curious to see how the studio can scale up its live service efforts. Having said that, suggest that Project Google can act as a surprise and even a little nervous live serve game, like Kamiya’s previous output does not suggest that this is the business model he is particularly interested in. In the end, however, we can only wait and see how Project Google it turns out, and hopefully, it will represent Kamiya’s true, uncompromising vision.
