PlanetSide 2’s big new update, with the new continent of Oshur, is currently under review for a January release

The Rogue Planet Games team originally planned to update Oshur for Planet area 2, will release in December, brings a new continent and water system to the game. However, on a recent developer thread discussing the state of development on the update, the time off work and holidays remaining, means they are pushing it back and planning a release in September. January.

They are still trying to test the new continent and Content with a closed test group this month, but they believe public testing will be held in early January before public testing in early January. According to the development update the team posted, water testing on the PTS didn’t show any surprises and most other factors seem to be going well.

This week, all countdowns will be reset for the January-targeted release. While development is progressing, the team says that’s more of a goal than a hard deadline right now, but the goal remains to release the Oshur update next month.

One thing that seems to have passed is that while there is still much work to be done, there don’t seem to be too many surprises so far. Additional environmental factors such as lighting and fog are still a work in progress as seen in the released screenshots, but the delay to January seems more like holiday time as well as just Make room for updates to grow instead of rushing the community. Adding something as massive as water would require testing so the team’s slowness shouldn’t be a surprise considering the size and scope of the pending update.

This week’s new patch launching tomorrow will also kick off the Auraximas event and feature some bug fixes and balance changes. For more, see announcements ended at Planetary area 2.
