OCEAN CITY, NJ (CBSNewYork) – A plane towing the banner made an emergency landing on 52 Causeway on Monday afternoon.
The single-engine Piper J3C-65 Cub aircraft began experiencing engine problems around 12:37 p.m., according to the FAA, according to the FAA.
Officials say the pilot, 18-year-old Landon Lucas, has declared an emergency and is trying to approach coastal city City airport. He dropped the banner over the ocean and attempted to land on the Freeway after noticing a traffic gap.
Lucas successfully landed the plane with no injuries to himself or the driver. He was the only one on the plane.
Authorities are towing the plane away.
The FAA and the National Safe Transportation Board will investigate the incident.
