Peter Molyneux is currently developing a dubious new NFT game

Peter Molyneux made a name for himself throughout the 1990s and 2000s, not without good reason. He helped develop a number of popular and even influential games, such as Magic carpet and Dungeon Keeperand he has earned special praise and respect for Fable series. Recently, however, his output has slowed considerably. His studio’s most recent projects, 22cans, never made it out of Early Access. However, some might get excited at first knowing that Molyneux will soon be planning to launch its first new game since 2017. Unfortunately, this new game, due out next year, may not represent the “great return of Peter Molyneux” that many may have hoped for, as it seems to exist primarily to take advantage of recent NFT and blockchain phenomena.

Molyneux’s new game, titled Heritage, is clearly an “opportunity for players to build their own businesses, design their own products from a wide range of possibilities”. According to Molyneux, players can earn Land NFTs that “allow [them] to begin [their] private blockchain business association in Heritage. ”

Uh, what?

Molyneux specifically stated that the game would allow players to earn money and own their gameplay, a claim that may well have come from a quip. He also noted that the game will adopt its own cryptocurrency in the form of LegacyCoin, which is “compliant with the tested and trusted ERC-20 token standard.”

In the end, it seems hard to see this new NFT game by Peter Molyneux as anything more than a cynical attempt to cash in on a growing trend, one that doesn’t make much sense when begin. Overall, his recent projects have not received as much acclaim as his earlier works and it seems very unlikely that this new game will reverse the trend, especially since it focuses too much on the business model rather than anything of artistic value. .
