Persona 5 Arena will have a tough choice to make
After the resounding success of Persona 5, fans of the Atlus RPG series had hoped unsurprisingly for sequels or subtitles that continued using Phantom Thieves. Atlus has provided a little of that since the extended version Persona 5 Royal to hack-and-slash action RPG Persona 5 Striker, but fans still hope that there are many Persona 5 surrounding content as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebration. While it’s unclear how much more Atlus wants to do with the Phantom Thief, a nagging rumor raises a compelling possibility. Atlus can still make a fighting game for Persona 5 in the style of Persona 4 Arena.
A theory Persona Arena 5 It seems more believable now that the fans know the first thing Arena game sequel Persona 4 Arena Ultimax there will be PC, Switch, and PS4 versions in 2022. Phantom Thieves definitely has a distinct fighting style that makes them all suitable for one-on-one battles like Persona 3 and 4 peers. Opponents of Phantom Thieves and Persona 5 antihero might have a hard time getting into the game due to his unknown fate, but Persona Arena 5 will lose an important part of Persona 5 brand by excluding him.
Persona 5 Arena’s Akechi Dilemma
Akechi’s status at the end of both Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal is ambiguous. Persona 5 actually suggests that Akechi sacrificed his life to save Phantom Thieves in Shido’s Palace, but strictly speaking, that has never been unequivocally confirmed. Persona 5 Royal bring back Akechi from the brink to enter its third term, and while the actual ending of the game suggests Akechi may be alive, it also doesn’t provide much clarity on where he is. Or what he’s doing. Persona 5 strikers including Akechi by focusing on a few new characters, but Striker‘refusing to mention Akechi in his absence leaves his specter hanging over the events of the game.
Persona 5 Arena, If Atlus decided to make it, would definitely want Akechi to be there. He can contribute a lot to a fighting game spin-off thanks to his twin Personas. Great to see two playable versions of Akechi in Persona 5 Arena, one uses Robin Hood while disguised in a red mask, and one uses Loki while wearing Akechi’s actual Metaverse outfit. Furthermore, it’s almost impossible to imagine Persona Arena 5 there is no Akechi to a certain extent. His close relationship with Joker and his role as the nemesis of the Phantom Thief is pivotal to Persona 5of the story, and he’s a major face of the franchise right now. Persona 5 strikers had to endure his absence, so a Arena the game will be too.
However, Akechi will contribute the most in terms of mechanics and One Persona brand ambassador, it’s hard to imagine how he can fit in Persona Arena 5 elegant. Both Persona Arena 4 Games have stories, but at the end of the day the main attraction of fighting games is usually not the plot. If Akechi shows up again, his dark past and many crimes will definitely need to be solved, but Persona Arena 5 may not be the right place to do it. Akechi’s story deserves to be unpacked in a genre that’s more narrative-focused than a fighting game. Unfortunately, that means Persona Arena 5 could be better without him.
Atlus ‘Next Steps
Of course, the part Akechi plays will only matter if Atlus confirms it Persona 5 fighting game. The game is rumored to be in a precarious position as Atlus fans learn that the studio is starting work Persona 6and yet, Persona Arena 5 does not seem entirely unlikely.
