People of Peace Chukwudi star Iwuji is opening up about the exciting yet nerve-wracking experience of making the jump from DC to Marvel, comparing it to similar feelings that arise when one is navigating the uncertain world of dating.

In a recent roundtable press discussion (via TheDirect), Iwuji said that he didn’t want to “spoil anything” in his performance as squad leader Clemson Murn in the DC series, directed by James Gunn, after accepting the invitation of the director to join him. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“It definitely doesn’t go and try to do anything else. Don’t twist anything. Only silence. You know that in the dating days when the date goes well, and you think it’s all going well and then you start talking, and you can hear yourself overreacting and you’re like ‘stop talking, you’re good. Stop.’ And you can’t stop yourself.”

Iwuji went on to explain that in order not to put his foot in his mouth, which we can relate to at some point on the first date going wrong in his life, he just wanted to focus on the quest to portray Clemson since Guardians At the time, the shoot was still several months away.

“[M]the focus is on Murn, and I have this journey to do with Murn. So I will continue to do that. So I don’t allow any pressure to come to me.

Consider the first time Iwuji met Gunn – when Trimmer manager Accidentally dialed actor’s ass – could itself be the result of an epic-cute encounter in a romantic comedy, only much more likely that the researcher would use a dating metaphor to explain his difficult feelings about the transition from DC to Marvel.

Shortly after Iwuji was confirmed for his return to Marvel role in early November 2021, Gunn called him “One of the best actors I’ve worked with.”

You can see People of Peace on HBO Max right now and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
