‘Peacemaker’ star admits she finds her personality a challenge

James Gunn enjoyed adapting little-known comic book characters to the screen and keeping the audience interested in them. He did it in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, DC’s Suicide Squad and now he’s doing it again with People of Peace. As well as the iconic criminal John Cena, the HBO Max series features a host of similar D-list characters from the comics given a new life. Among them is Emilia Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland.

Holland – who has been in a relationship with Gunn since 2015 – previously appeared as Holland in Suicide Squad, though she’s mostly there just to show off as one of Amanda Waller’s underlings. In People of Peacehowever, there is more room to explore Emilia’s inner life and personality. While that’s certainly a good thing, Holland did admit it was a “challenge” for the character to expand so much.

While talking to Collider, Holland revealed that she didn’t even have to play Emilia Harcourt in the beginning TSS before Gunn decided to use the character, which is why she’s not as “strong” in the movie as she is in the show.

As Holland explained:

“I was having a little trouble trying to figure out who Harcourt was Suicide Squad see who she is in the series because she is a very different person from her in Suicide Squad, I think because James wrote the character Comms Tech 2, or something like that. She was just a call center technician who became a kind of more important character while he was writing. Suicide Squad, and at one point he said, ‘I’m going to give her a comic book name so that when fans see the attribution, they’ll go, oh my god, that’s Emilia Harcourt! And they have something to get excited about, and that’s an easter egg. ‘ That’s basically why he named me Emilia Harcourt. So my character, as he writes to me in the movie, doesn’t really have much to do with Emilia Harcourt in the comics or whatever is going to be her in the series, so she’s a bit different in the movie. in that she is not a strong person like in the story. “

In the comics, Emilia is an NSA agent sent to assist Waller in monitoring the Suicide Squad. She’s a relatively minor character, having only 14 appearances to her name since she was created in 2016, so Gunn is free to re-imagine Harcourt however he sees fit. fit. When it happens, People of Peace established a no-surname/will-no-last-name romantic connection between Harcourt of the Netherlands and Christopher Smith of Cena.
