‘Peacemaker’ first review is a surprisingly mixed bag

As the first feature-length series set in the DCEU, which is also a combination of a direct sequel and spin-off to one of the franchise’s most acclaimed series, expectations for People of Peace suitable height.

That doesn’t even mention the fact, it marked James Gunn’s first foray into fantasy television and he went all out by developing the idea, writing the entire script and directed five of the eight films himself. Briefly; John Cena could play the title role, but People of Peace is a show by James Gunn.

The first three episodes premiered on January 13, and the review ban has now officially been lifted. However, as you can see from some of the reviews below, not all reviewers took notice People of Peace was completely defeated by the raucous, breathtaking R-rated superhero.

If you are a fan of Gunn’s work and/or Suicide Squad, then there’s obviously a lot to love People of Peace. However, from the sound of it, the crude and gratuitously violent escape is no guarantee of victory over the doubters. Either way, we can safely say that HBO Max has been a huge hit regardless of the critical consensus, that’s exactly what the platform has long expected.
