The extended Queen’s Platinum Jubilee The weekend takes place between Thursday 2nd June and Sunday 5th June – and to celebrate this, many people are to be given extra days off.

This means that the benefit receipt date will change for people who receive benefits.

Benefit payments including Universal Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employed Tax Credit, Child Benefit, Employment Assistance (ESA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Unemployment Benefit (JSA), Nursing Allowance, Nursing Allowance, and Retirement Credit are affected by public holidays.

All banks are closed on public holidays, so services are processed differently on these days.

When will the benefits be received?

If you receive a benefit payment over a holiday, you can expect it to arrive in your bank account early.

This is because banks process all payments in advance before closing for a long weekend.

The Department for Works and Pensions has confirmed the payment date you can expect for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.

If your payment date falls on Thursday 2nd June or Friday 3rd June, you will likely receive your money on Wednesday 1st June as both days are public holidays.

Why are we having a bank holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

This year at the end of May Holidaywhich normally takes place on the last weekend in May, has been postponed to fall alongside the extra bank holiday for Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign.

The bank holiday was granted by the government to allow the UK to celebrate this event.

Queen Elizabeth II is the only British monarch in history to have reached this milestone.

When are the other public holidays in 2022?

There are five more public holidays this year.

Some are available across the UK, others only in Scotland. They are all listed below.

Service recipients can also expect early receipt of payment on these dates.

  • Monday 1 August: Summer Bank Holiday (Scotland only)
  • Monday 29 August: Summer holiday
  • Wednesday 1 November: St Andrew’s Day (Scotland only)
  • Monday 26 December: Boxing Day
  • Tuesday, December 27: Substitute for Christmas Day

The Department for Work and Pensions has not yet confirmed the exact benefit payment dates around these bank holidays.

What do I do if I need additional financial help?

If the amount of social assistance is not enough to live on or if you need help while you are waiting for the first payment, you can apply for a hardship benefit.
