Once again it’s Lucio Ball’s season in Overwatch.
The Overwatch Summer Games event will return in 2021, with Blizzard confirming the release date for the event and revealing some of the new skins that will be appearing in the game. Disclosure was made on Twitter.
The Overwatch 2021 Summer Olympics event runs from July 20 to August 10.
Blizzard introduced three skins for Mei, Ashe and Symmetra that will be available during the event.
Mei’s skin is something of a follow-up to Honeydew’s skin from 2020, leaving her dressed in an outfit in the style of a waitress from a 1950s diner. Ashe is wearing a swimsuit with a cowboy hats were replaced with straw hats, while the BOB woman wore a Hawaiian shirt and inflatable crown.
Symmetra’s skin is what Blizzard chose to highlight the most, and that’s certainly understandable. The Mermaid’s skin has a radically different look than anything else for heroes, and is welcomed by hero fans who have felt overlooked by Blizzard when it comes to cosmetics.
Precedent suggests that the Overwatch 2021 Summer Olympics will have more skins to go with these three skins. The 2021 Lunar New Year event added eight skins to the game, and this will likely have a similar product.
Lucioball is likely to return in 2021, but will there be a change?
Overwatch fans have been venting their frustrations with Blizzard’s refusal to update their annual events for years now, but they’ve been boned in 2020 with the Summer Olympics. Besides the normal Lucioball offering is the Lucioball Remix. Lucioball Remix has many balls to play with, even multiple dropped balls in the game bring bonus points.
It is currently unclear if Lucioball Remix will return, or if another version of Lucioball Remix could be introduced. Fans won’t have to wait long as the Overwatch 2021 Summer Olympics will begin in just a few days.
