Overwatch 2 Xbox Exclusive: Will it come to PS4 and PS5?

After the amazing news that Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion shocked the gaming world, which leaves a big question mark regarding all of the publisher’s upcoming big games and whether they’ll ever launch on the PlayStation platform again. So is Overwatch 2 coming to PS4 and PS5 after all? Or, is Overwatch 2 an Xbox exclusive? Here is what is known so far.

Will Overwatch 2 be an Xbox exclusive?

Overwatch 2 probably won’t be an Xbox exclusive as it seems very likely it will be out before Activision Blizzard’s acquisition takes place. That deal doesn’t go into effect until mid-2023.

It also seems very unlikely that any current game in development like Overwatch 2 will get their PlayStation version, especially given the current release schedule. is a holiday in 2022 or early 2023.

As a live-service game in constant development, things are going to get all the more messy as Microsoft most likely won’t pull a burgeoning online game like Overwatch 2 or Call of Duty: Warzone. It’s been two years since Microsoft bought Bethesda, for example, and the Fallout 76 live service title is still available on PS4 and PS5.

While the next Blizzard titles such as Diablo 4 could risk becoming an Xbox exclusive, it’s likely that Overwatch 2 will remain cross-platform and will release on both PS4 and PS5.

For more on Overwatch, just a few months ago Blizzard has renamed McCree due to controversy over its origin, and Crossplay between all versions of the game finally arrived last year. Despite Microsoft’s acquisition, it seems very likely that Overwatch 2 will also feature cross-play between PC, Xbox, PS4 and PS5 when the game finally launches. Hopefully fans can finally play Overwatch 2 later this year or early next year.
