Overwatch 2 release date: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

It didn’t take long for Overwatch to become a staple in the competitive gaming community. Little wonder why so many players are so excited to see what Overwatch 2 bring to the table. Of course, beyond its announcement, we haven’t really seen too much additional information yet. But while the release date may still be a while away, at least we know what console Overwatch 2 will launch for.

What is the Overwatch 2 release date?

Overwatch 2 has yet to be given an official release date. By all accounts, it was previously planned to launch around holiday 2022, but that no longer seems to be the case. Overwatch will most likely release in 2023, but we’re still waiting to find out a specific date.

With that said, work seems to be moving. In fact, Blizzard says that certain competitive Overwatch players will have access to an early build of the game in 2022. Their feedback will likely help resolve any eventual collisions upon release. . Then we’ll likely hear more details on when the game is scheduled to launch globally.

Good news: Overwatch 2 is out for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Thanks to cross-generation support, the game will also work on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Unlike traditional sequels, Overwatch 2 seems like an evolution of the original. In fact, it runs on the same engine, albeit an upgraded version. According to Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan, the idea is to prevent the player base from fragmenting. By keeping both titles compatible, hopefully finally merge both clients together.

In other words, if you play Overwatch right now, you’ll be able to play Overwatch 2 on the same platform. And, if you’ve switched to current-gen consoles, the game should run on those as well.
