‘Our Flag Means Death’ Trailer Reveals Taika Waititi’s Blackbeard (VIDEO)

HBO Max gives viewers their first look at the gripping new comedy Our flag means deathscheduled to launch on Thursday, March 3 on streamer.

Ten-episode first season by creator David Jenkins and Taika Waititi will be released in three parts. In the weeks that continue to air, three episodes will arrive on Thursday, March 10, two episodes on March 17, and the final two on March 24.

Based on the true adventures of 18th century pirate, Sted Bonnet (do Rhys Darby), this unique comedy follows his adventures aboard the Revenge. After trading the glamorous life of a gentleman for the precariousness of a pirate’s life, Stede is no longer his depth.

Struggling to win the respect of his crew, who weigh the risks and rewards of possible rebellion, Stede turns to Captain Blackbeard (Waititi) after a run destined to help him adapt and survive at sea.

All of this and more is being revealed in the HBO max comedy trailer, below, from host Jenkins, who executive produced the series alongside Waititi, and producers Garrett Basch and Dan Halstead. In the words of Darby’s character, Stede considers himself the most feared pirate because “instead of killing with weapons, he kills with kindness.”

That element of his character went unnoticed by Blackbeard, who mused after some time together, “you’re a lunatic and I love that.”

Along with Waititi and Darby, the series stars Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian NairnSon O’Neill, Guz Khan, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisenand Leslie Jones among others.
