At Ignite 2021, Microsoft announced that OneDrive will support ARM-based Windows and Apple M1 devices, saying:
We’re excited to announce OneDrive support for ARM-based Windows devices. Join us in the Insider Round to opt in to the ARM preview later this year.
We recently announced that OneDrive will be compiled natively for the M1 and will be releasing a preview for the Insiders Ring in December. You can take full advantage of the performance improvements on the M1 early next year.
Now, Microsoft has announced some details on the ARM Client Preview rollout for devices in the Current Channel (Preview). After the preview release for Current Channel (Preview), it will release for General Availability.
Both Windows ARM Client and Apple Silicon Customers will begin rolling out to the Current Channel (Preview) in early December and is expected to complete its release in mid-December. Standard users will begin receiving the update late January to mid-December. February.
To enable preview mode, users need to join Current Channel (Preview) and enable preview mode in OneDrive Settings > About. Users can also opt out in OneDrive Settings > About. The functionality of the clients is the same, but the ARM client may perform better.
