Original Bayonetta VA Calls for Boycott of Game 3 Over ‘Offending’ Pay Offer

Hellena Taylor, the original voice actress of Bayonetta by Platinum GamesShe has called for a boycott of the game after allegedly receiving an “insulting” salary offer for the role.

It’s been known for a while that for some reason Taylor would not be reprising her role as the now fairly iconic witch, as she essentially said as such last year. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that prolific voice actress Jennifer Hale would be taking on the role, with the game’s director Yusuke Miyata saying that “various overlapping circumstances made it difficult for Hellena Taylor to reprise her role.” But now, Taylor has one Posted a series of videos on her personal Twitter claiming that she ultimately had to decline returning because she was only offered $4000 for the performance.

“I call on the fans to boycott [Bayonetta 3]and instead spend the money you would have spent on this game to donate to charity,” Taylor pleaded with fans first of four Videos she posted on Twitter yesterday October 15th. “I didn’t want the world. I didn’t ask too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified, living wage immoral.”

go into some More details Over the “back and forth,” Taylor explained that she auditioned for the role again, noting that “sometimes the voices change over time,” but said she “obviously passed with flying colors.” However, according to Taylor, she was sent an “insulting offer” after the audition, although she did not disclose what that amount was. Which prompted her to write to Hideki Kamiya, the director of the first Bayonetta, and after working on the story for all three titles “to ask him what I’m worth.”

Taylor says that Kamiya responded to her by saying that “he really appreciates my contribution to the game and the fans really want me to speak it out,” and that the “memory of first meeting me as Bayonetta is a memory was dear to his heart. Taylor then thought this would help, but only resulted in the $4,000 offer.

Kamiya continued to respond to the allegations his own twitterand wrote: “Sad and regrettable for the attitude of untruth. That’s all I can say now. BTW, BEWARE MY RULES [sic],” that last line is a hint at how liberal he is with the lock button. Kamiya’s account is temporarily suspended at the time of writing.

PlatinumGames has yet to provide an official response on the matter, and neither has publisher Nintendo.
