The OnlyFans model, who is accused of murdering her boyfriend in her luxury Miami high-rise in April, fatally stabbed him in the heart during a heated domestic dispute, authorities said Thursday.
The indictment comes after months of speculation about Courtney Clenney’s role in the death of 27-year-old Christian Obumseli and repeated claims by Clenney and her attorney that she acted in self-defense.
Clenney, a 26-year-old Instagram influencer, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the April 3 incident. Defense attorney Frank Prieto confirmed to The Daily Beast on Wednesday that his client was taken into custody in Hawaii, where she was in a rehab facility for PTSD.
The charges paint a picture of years of turmoil in Clenney and Obumseli’s relationship, but also specifically allege that the model repeatedly abused the cryptocurrency trader. The arguments between the couple became so extreme that an employee at their luxury condo “took legal action to evict them,” according to a warrant published by The Daily Beast.
“The violent and toxic two-year relationship between Christian Obumseli and Courtney Clenney did not have to end in tragedy with Christian’s murder as a victim of domestic violence,” Miami District Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said Thursday.
The Miami Police Department previously said officers were responding to a report of a stabbing at the One Paraiso luxury building around 5 p.m. on April 3, where they found Obumseli with a “knife wound.”
Obumseli was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy report revealed that he suffered a “stab wound to the chest … and that the knife punctured the subclavian artery.”
“The knife penetrated at a downward angle to a depth of eight centimeters,” the arrest warrant said.
The angle and direction of the knife, Rundle said Thursday, challenge Clenney’s claim that she threw the knife at her boyfriend from ten feet away. The prosecutor also said previous statements, 911 calls and videos show Clenney was typically the attacker in their relationship.
In a violent episode caught on video just two months before the murder, Clenney is seen repeatedly assaulting her boyfriend in an elevator. During video of the February 2022 incident obtained by The Daily Beast, Clenney can be seen punching Obumseli before the elevator doors close after angrily slapping the elevator’s touchscreen. She repeatedly hits, punches, and grabs Obumseli by the hair, seeming to remain persistent even when he tries to fight her off. The pair then appear to yell at each other as Clenney continues the attack before finally the elevator door opens and he runs off.
Clenney is immediately seen charging after him and throwing himself before the clips cut out.
The warrant notes that as of November 2020, the couple “have had a tumultuous relationship … with multiple incidents of domestic violence from both sides.” The relationship was so toxic that the couple broke up several times, including just days before Obumseli’s murder. The warrant states that while the couple split in the last week of March, they got back together just days later – and “argument started almost immediately”.
On April 1, according to the warrant, police were called to the 22nd-floor apartment, but no arrests were made at that time.
On the day of the murder, investigators say the couple were unusually peaceful and were “playing with their dogs in the apartment.” Eventually, Obumseli went to get them sandwiches. Investigators say Clenney called Obumseli around 4:01 p.m. before going live on Instagram.
About 30 minutes later, she called him a second time after posting her Instagram video – which was about when he entered the apartment. Ten minutes later, the warrant said Clenney called her mother, Deborah, who told police she heard the couple having an argument. Clenney called her mother again at 4:49 p.m. — a call that lasted over seven minutes.
A minute later, Clenney called 911 to say that Obumseli “suffered a stab wound and was asking for help.”
“On that call [Clenney] can be heard in the background repeatedly saying he’s dying and can’t feel his arm,” the warrant reads, adding that the model was heard saying, “I’m so sorry baby.”
The warrant states that Clenney has presented “several conflicting accounts of the incident.” First, according to the warrant, Clenney said she “armed herself with a knife” after Obumseli “shoved her against the wall by the neck without choking her, and then she claimed he threw her to the ground, but then he threw her.” allowed to get up.”
Clenney, however, had no physical injuries despite the allegedly violent episode.
The warrant says Clenney questioned her own actions, telling officers at one point, “I don’t think this…I really don’t know.” I really don’t know if that was justified at all.”
