Online Lottery for Collected Van Winkle Souls Opens This Month in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage is opening an online lottery this month for collectible Van Winkle bourbon whiskeys.

Spirits are often described as one of the hardest to find because they are not produced in large quantities. As a result, Van Winkle products are distributed in Virginia by lottery through Virginia ABC in an effort to make it fair.

Virginia ABC customers can enter online for a chance to purchase Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 Years, 20 Years and 15 Years, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year and Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year bourbons.

Here are the dates for each draw, the number of bottles and the product price:

• March 9-13:
  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 Year ($329.99) – five bottles available (four bottles retail, one licensed)
  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Years ($229.99) – 180 bottles available (144 retail units, 36 licensed units)
  • Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 Years ($139.99) – 62 bottles available (50 retail bottles, 12 licensees)
• March 23-27:
  • Van Winkle Special Reserve Bourbon 12 Years ($89.99) – 1,207 bottles available (966 retail bottles, 241 licensees)
  • Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year ($79.99) – 361 bottles available (289 retail, 72 licensees)

Each lottery is open for five days to people 21 years of age and older and licensed businesses serving mixed drinks. Drawings are held separately for retail and licensed customers.

Winners will be chosen at random, and all entries over a five-day period have an equal chance of winning.

The name and address on the photo ID Virginia presented at purchase must match the name and address on the lottery winner’s entry. The entry must also include the store number and the address where the bottle will be delivered if the customer is selected.
