Start from SNES with Super Mario Kart, the franchise has become a staple of the Nintendo franchise. With 14 games released to date and over 150 million copies sold, it’s no surprise that many people have played kart racing over the years. However, some people may be surprised to learn that one of those people is Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt.

Arguably the fastest man in history, Usain Bolt is known for his incredible sprinting ability ability. In a career that spanned four Olympics, he won a respectable eight gold medals at those events and broke several world records in the sprint. While the Olympic sprinter may be associated with athletic events, he revealed that he also enjoys video games.

Recently, Usain Bolt appeared in an interview with BBC Gaming Reporter Steffan Powell. While the interview was part of an ad campaign for the fascinating hologram technology called Portl, the sprinter also shared some interesting details about his life. According to the sprinter, he likes to play video games, such as Mario Kart, grow up. Perhaps, he even enjoys them a little, revealing that he has occasionally missed practice to play more games.

Although he sometimes skips track practice for the sake of video games, Bolt believes they contribute to his success. After being asked if video games would make him better as an athlete, he confidently answered. “It helped, it helped,” he said. According to the Olympian, video games, like sports, pushed him to learn new skills and become the best. “I feel like it helped my hunger,” he said. Bolt believes that video games like Mario Kart helped him have the right mindset when stepping on the track. “You just want to win,” he said.

In addition to revealing that Mario Kart helped boost his competition, he’s made some interesting claims about his career. After being asked by Powell if he would like to be a professional gamer or streamer if he could restart his career, Bolt asserted that he could have gone a different route. He claims he will have considered a career in e-sports to replace.
