“We want to empower people who are body savvy and how those conversations need to start young,” Abigail Gerow, co-founder of Oddobody, said in an exclusive interview. “There is a lack of information on how to talk to children about their bodies. There are no tools to talk to your kids about their bodies. With the manual, [parents] are getting tools to help kids orientate their bodies and explore their sexuality. ”

The guide, known as the Oddokids Manual, deals with issues such as how to talk to children – from toddlers to primary school age children – about gender, the language used in those discussions. and how to create a safe space to study and socialize. It also includes games, such as crossword puzzles, and mache-like pictures with anatomically correct words that can be downloaded from Oddobody.com to help parents and carers problem solving.

“It’s been amazing to see body positivity on the rise and with so many brands breaking taboos, brands talking about things like women’s periods. But there really isn’t a single brand that thinks these topics out for kids and that’s really where the conversation begins,” explains Oddobody’s other co-founder Shira Wheeler, explaining the necessity of the book. tutorial. “The way we think about our bodies has a lot to do with the coming-of-adult experiences we had as teenagers and the tools we received as children.”

The guide is available for free on Oddobody’s website, and is co-edited by author and psychotherapist Rachel Simon. It is important to work with multiple experts on the project, says Gerow, “because we wanted to make it clear that we are not considered experts. We are still learning and curious. Hope this flares up in others [the desire] to start a conversation. ”

The Oddobody Children’s Collection, launching Thursday, is made from 100% organic Pima cotton and comes in sizes for two- to nine-year-olds. The four-piece collection includes three types of lingerie and a tank top in packages ranging from $18 to $32.

Gerow and Wheeler founded Oddobody in 2019. Both women are new moms and wanted to create a brand focused on Sustainability and women’s health.

“It’s a very eye-opening experience, as you get to know the least of your body during pregnancy,” explains Gerow.

Add to that a general lack of information, stories about multiple wives, and a host of inaccuracies surrounding women’s well-being, and Gerow and Wheeler said they wanted to start a company focused on women’s happiness. vaginal health. Thus, Oddobody comes out with four resource guides: anatomy and pleasure from a female perspective; vulva care; menstrual cycle and pelvic floor. The duo say the children’s guidebook – and the fact that the collection is unisex – is a natural evolution of the brand.

“Launching a line for children has always been on our radar,” says Gerow. “And with children, it’s about body awareness and body awareness, which applies to both sexes.”
