Nvidia RTX 4000 Series is said to be designed on TSMC N5 Node

Nvidia is reportedly planning to introduce two new GPU architectures for its RTX 4000 Series cards. Utilizing TSMC’s N5 process technology, these new architectures will provide a significant performance boost over the current node used for the RTX 3000 Series. Nvidia uses Samsung’s 8LPP fabrication process to create its RTX 3000 Series GPUs. The Ampere architecture has also leveraged TSMC’s capabilities with the N7 node to create a high-performance GA100 GPU for professional applications. But now, Nvidia is said to have decided to use TSMC’s N5 process technology for its RTX 4000 Series cards, cutting out Samsung’s role in the manufacturing process.

In terms of logistics and partner agreements, Nvidia can streamline the production of its next line of GPUs. Theoretically, a dual-platform approach to gaming and professional product lines makes sense for the company, but there have been concerns about its ability to deliver consistent output in large enough volumes. on their own advanced nodes for future generations of GPUs. The use of TSMC’s N5 process is promising for the RTX 4000 series of GPUs. Performance here will be really impressive for both Lovelace and Hopper architectures. But especially for Lovelace, the N5 button will provide a level of performance that the GeForce RTX 3000 Series can’t reach, meaning it can power high-end PC gaming. According to this information, Hopper will also benefit from TSMC’s CoWoS encapsulation technology. While all of this is still just rumors for now, it’s still some very interesting information.

There is still no word on when the Nvidia RTX 4000 Series lineup will be officially revealed. With the arrival of both the RTX 3090 Ti and 3070 16 GB on the horizon, it’s unlikely we’ll see Series 4000 anytime soon. There could be some chance of seeing these GPUs by the end of 2022, but for now it will be an anxious wait.
