Western Michigan @ Northern Illinois
Current record: Western Michigan 6-5; Northern Illinois 8-3
What to know
The Western Michigan Broncos and North Illinois Huskies have been going head-to-head since November 2015 (3-3), but not for long. WMU and Huskies will go head-to-head in the US battle at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Brigham Field in Huskie Stadium. With a total of 978 yards violations in their previous matches, we can expect a fast-paced game.
It’s always hard to lose, and even harder to lose a point. Just ask the Broncos, who unfortunately suffered a 22-21 defeat at the hands of the East Michigan Eagles on Tuesday. WR Skyy Moore made a good effort for the losing side as he caught 12 passes for a TD and 181 yards. Moore’s performance made up for a slower contest with Akron Zips last Tuesday.
Speaking of close games: it may have taken overtime to get the job done, but the Huskies finally got the results they were hoping for on Wednesday with a 33-27 win over the Buffalo Bulls. The scores were all equal in the 10-10 break, but NIU was the better team in the second half. WR Trayvon Rudolph was the offensive highlight of the game for the NIU, punching in a hasty touchdown alongside catching four passes from 80 yards. That touchdown – a 75-yard rush in the second half – was one of the highlights of the game.
The Broncos are currently 6-5 while the NIU sits at 8-3. Two defensive stats to watch out for: WMU is 216th worst nationally in terms of touches allowed, with 22 points for the season. The Huskies went through some struggles of their own as they stumbled into the match with the most rushed 239 touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 29 for the season. Maybe one of these Achilles heels will get in the way of the losing team.
