Normal Republican Senator Rejects Trump’s ‘Big Lie’ Push: Americans Won’t ‘Vote Fraudsters’

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) tried to dismiss any concerns Sunday about the push of former President Donald Trump to install vote-rejecting supporters into election-monitoring positions, claiming that “it is not true” that these officials could influence the final count of votes.

At the same time, Cassidy stressed that the American public will not blame Trump-backed candidates pushing the “Big Lie” into the ballot box. “The American people will not vote for a cheater,” he confidently declared.

In an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Cassidy — person Vote to convict Trump of impeachment for inciting the January 6 uprising — defended the decision not to support restore parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, even though the Senate voted 98-0 to reauthorize the law just a decade ago.
