No-nonsense remake of the beloved Oscar-winning classic on Netflix

Recent data claim that by the end of the decade, 50% of viewers across all streaming platforms will come from non-English movies and TV shows. Hopefully that will stop Hollywood from churning out pointless remakes with nothing new to say, like Secret in their eyes.
The 2009 Argentinian crime drama is an incredible piece of work, making you put your jaws on the floor and feel like you’ve been punched in the gut as the footage begins. Juan José Campanella’s gripping story won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, so if there’s a big surprise, it took six years for an American studio to buy back the remake rights.

Billy Ray wrote and directed the Stateside shoot, which somehow managed to squander an ensemble cast that featured Chiwitel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, Alfred Molina, Michael Kelly, Dean Norris, and many more. It’s a perfect feature in terms of functionality, but the 39% score on Rotten Tomatoes clearly shows that Secret in their eyes failed miserably to justify its own existence.
If you haven’t seen the original it’s a solid thriller, and Netflix subscribers seem to agree. Follow FlixPatrol, Secret in their eyes has skyrocketed the most viewed list to reach the Top 10 in several countries, so it is well on its way to gaining new highs.
