Bad news for Armie Hammerheads, by which I mean folks obsessed with the increasingly strange story of the actor-turned-suspected sex cannibal: The rumor that the Cayman Islander has landed a suitably weird new job — albeit not for Any film work, mind you – turned out to be a scam.
A viral tweet by screenwriter Muna Mire on Wednesday afternoon – which has since been deleted – hinted that Hammer had once again found employment, this time in the hospitality industry. “My boyfriend’s parents were vacationing in the Cayman Islands and Armie Hammer was their concierge. I’m still not over it,” the tweet said; Attached was a flyer from a Grand Cayman based resort called Morritt’s with Hammer’s face and greetings.
The flyer, which has the guests’ names at the top, seemed to indicate that it came directly from the guests’ personal concierge — in this case, “Armie.”
But Morritt’s director of sales, Christopher Butcher, told The Daily Beast that while Hammer hung out at the resort over the weekend, he doesn’t work in a capacity there.”[Hammer] lives on Grand Cayman. One of my co-workers is playing golf with him and he just came to spend a day with one of my co-workers to see what we were doing.”
This employee decided to use Hammer’s famous mug on his own handout to surprise and intrigue vacationers, Butcher says. But no, Hammer itself did not give away “discounted drink tickets” and “free raffle tickets”, as the flyer suggests.
However, it’s still likely that guests at the resort saw Hammer walking around during the 4th of July weekend, even if he wasn’t serving as their personal concierge.
“I’m sure they would have [seen him]’ says Butcher. “He was outside smoking a cigarette … If you were a movie buff, you would recognize him.”
fans of The social network or call me by your name must have freaked out – as did the internet when they found out that Hammer might have found a new job. Allegations of violent rape, sexual assault, and cannibalism usually don’t look good on a resume. Considering Hammer was last in the news for an upcoming Discovery+ series about his notorious family’s various sex, drug and financial scandals, people on social media understandably found the flyer both shocking and disgusting low key hilarious.
“It never occurred to me that we would get so much publicity from just someone hanging around the office,” says Butcher, adding that he was “stunned” by the attention Hammer’s alleged appearance at Morritt’s drew, whose famous guests in the past have included the likes of Iggy Pop, Taylor Swift and Mark Cuban. “It just goes to show how popular actors are.”
Could Hammer actually get a job serving guests at Morritt? Metzger is not against the idea. “If it got that much publicity, then maybe!”
