Nintendo Switch Online should add the option to buy N64 games individually

Giving players more choices in how to buy and enjoy video games has become more important in recent years. With the continued push towards digital markets and streaming platforms, giving consumers the freedom to choose exactly what they want is beneficial. Xbox has Game Pass, PlayStation has PS Plus and Nintendo has Nintendo Switch Online, service dedicated to online play and other features only for subscribers.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Nintendo Switch Online is legacy content that Nintendo includes in its monthly bundle. Subscribers have access to both the NES and SNES libraries, featuring a range of classics from each era. N64 games are finally added to the service, but this is a double-edged sword. The inclusion of N64 games and other aspects of the Expansion Pack tier greatly increased its monthly price to a level that many felt was too high for what was offered. To remedy this, one simple solution is for Nintendo to allow players to purchase individual N64 games at a fixed rate.
Nintendo Switch Online – The importance of consumer choice
While Xbox and PlayStation has the same subscription and online services as Nintendo, the fundamental difference being that this is not the exclusive way in which gamers can obtain content. For example, PS Now is a monthly subscription model that gives gamers access to a catalog from the PS2, PS3 and PS4 generations. For one flat price, players have access to hundreds of titles that are always available to stream.
However, as reasonably priced as possible, there are still players who don’t care about everything the service has to offer, and it’s a waste to pay for access to a bunch of games they don’t play. money. For this reason, both Xbox and PlayStation Online Store offers the option to simply purchase these old games individually. That way, players are free to pick and choose exactly the games they want to play, instead of paying for an entire library where they can only play a handful of titles.
Win/Win Scenario for Nintendo
The Nintendo 64 is home to many of the company’s most famous classics. Super Mario 64, paper mario, and StarFox 64 all have a special place in the hearts of gamers who grew up in that generation. Likewise, newer players might be interested in checking out these titles. However, in the hypothetical situation where The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time turned out to be the only game that was of interest to players, it would be a tough sale to convince them to pay only $49.99 a month.
It would be worthwhile for Nintendo to include the option of paying a flat fee for each of these Game N64 single. Something like the $9.99 per N64 game price tag makes sense, especially considering many of these titles are still priced as good as they are today when they originally released. This will allow players to buy exactly the games they want to own, instead of having them all mixed up with titles they might not be interested in.
With any service or product, there is always room for improvement and Nintendo Switch Online is no different. While the novelty of playing multiple classics in one place is tempting, the price-to-value ratio can be adjusted here. With a few tweaks, Nintendo Switch Online has the potential to emerge as a strong contender in the digital gaming space.
