NFL Week 10th Grade: Patriots and Cowboys both earn ‘A+’ for split wins, Rams get ‘F’ for Monday’s loss

Every team passed Mac Jones in this year’s draft probably start to regret and that’s because Patriots rookies are starting to look like the best QB from 2021.

If Jones wasn’t in the conversation about Offensive Rookie of the Year in Week 10, he’s certainly joining the conversation right now after leading the Patriots to a devastating 45-7 victory over Cleveland Browns in his arguably best performance of the year.

Jones is clearly feeling more comfortable on the field each week, and you can tell, because he seems to be making more daring throws. While his numbers aren’t too flashy (he only threw 198 yards), he nearly caught up every pitch in a game where he completed 82.6% of his passes. , which is the second-highest total in team history at a game where QB threw at least 10 passes (And yes, guess what, the record is held by brave cat).

Jones started the day by completing nine of his first 10 passes in the 116 yards and two touchdowns. His first scoring shot came from a perfect 3-yard pass for Hunter Henry leaving defenders no chance to stop.

If a 3-yard scoring pass doesn’t impress you, it’s possible that a 23-yard touchdown will.

With the Patriots leading 14-7 at the end of the second quarter, Jones made one of his boldest throws of the day when he decided he would try threading the needle with a passing pass. Kendrick Bourne, who was covered by the Browns. To get the goal, it took a perfect pass and a great catch and the Patriots got them both. The pass below to Bourne capped the Patriots’ first 99-yard TD drive since 2011.

If the Browns expected Jones to play the role of a game manager who would sink and slam into the field, they had a rude awakening Sunday. Jones frequently took chances down the field, and his pitches were so perfect that there was nothing Cleveland could do to stop them.

Besides the 23-yard throw-in for Bourne, Jones also had a 17-yard pass for Henry in the third half that was almost as impressive as the TD against Bourne.

Each week, the Patriots give Jones more responsibility, and every week, he reciprocates by taking such throws. In the game against the Browns, Jones finished with three passes that hit the ground and failed to intercept, which is remarkable, because that making him the first Patriots rookie QB since 1960 to end a game with three scoring throws and no interception.

With the Patriots currently 6-4 and Jones having hit his stride, New England should be a team that terrifies everyone else in the AFC. It’s easy to forget that the Patriots are only two games away from 8-2 (They missed a goal in the final seconds before Sugarcane seller in Week 4 and they lost a late game first Dolphin in Week 1). The AFC is open now and this Patriots not only feels like a title contender, it’s like a team that could win the AFC East and possibly come back. Super Bowl for the first time since the 2018 season.
