NFL coach hot seat rankings enter Week 13: David Culley fails to gain traction, Matt Rhule stumbles

November proved once again to be brutal for many NFL teams, but rewarding for others. However, there are some unusual suspects that fall into the latter category, and that makes this week’s iteration of CBS Sports’ coach hot seat rankings more compelling than ever. In the past, coaches like Brian Flores and Vic Fangio were desperate to hang on for their jobs, but not anymore. And then there was Joe Judge, who fired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett in hopes of pouring ice water on the chair below him, but had to determine if he hit that goal.
That’s because while Giants in New York won the necessary victory and passed Philadelphia Eagles, that doesn’t take away his faith in his future with an “impatient” owner in John Mara. As the 2021 regular season draws to a close, some coaches’ time is running out to prove their worth to their respective teams, but at least two coaches are crazily trending in the right direction. after Week 12.
Let’s see the latest news NFL coaching hot seat ratings and who’s going to land where as we head into December.

Cool down: Brian Flores, Dolphins; Vic Fangio, Broncos
Kudos to Flores for what is becoming a dramatic change in Miami. All was well just a year ago for the Dolphins head coach, who went 10-6 in his sophomore year. That was before the Dolphins got back on their losing streak, and questions around Flores’ future justifiably began to emerge in 2021. They won their opening regular-season win first. New England Patriots but then went on a seven-game losing streak, a slip that nearly destroyed any chance of hitting a wild card position.
With Tagovailoa Now healthy and mostly playing well, attack is starting to flow and it was greatly helped by a defense that couldn’t stop a nosebleed earlier this season. Miami’s defense has dropped no more than 17 points in any of its last four (all wins), allowing Tagovailoa to avoid playing epic games and instead focus solely on the opposition’s defence. give him what. By contrast, the Dolphins’ defense has allowed a whopping 29.6 points per game in its seven-game losing streak.
Flores is getting the train back on track in Miami, just like Fangio is in Denver.
Speaking of Fangio, there is no coach in the league as high, low, and far behind on this list as he is. His seat couldn’t get hotter in late October, when Broncos was the loser of four consecutive games. Since then, they’ve taken down the Washington Soccer Team, which isn’t enough to move the needle, but combined with the way they shocked the world by defeating Dallas Cowboys during Week 9 – one of the NFC’s top contenders – and at AT&T Stadium, and after the future Hall of Fame streetwalker trade Von Miller, and no Bradley Chubb (IR); moving Fangio from number five on this list to one of two reprehensible names in order.
The Broncos suffered a setback in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles but that was further appreciated by their win over Los Angeles charger – a competitor in the same division – that makes things much more intense in the AFC West. It’s also the fashion in which they control the Charger that really impresses, and now in 6-5 on the season, the Broncos are within striking distance of the division leader. Chief of Kansas City (a team they were about to meet twice in the next six games) – along with another dance with the Chargers and Raiders – Fangio has a chance to remove his name from this list.

5. Joe Judge, Giant
It’s hard to argue that more people are in the hot seat than Judge in 2021, depending on how you view owner John Mara’s mood, although he leaves little room for post-season interpretation. . Mara noted that this season “everyone is in the hot seat” in New York – from Judge to general manager Dave Gettleman to himself. Even he’s cute and all from a PR standpoint, but we all know the owner didn’t fire himself; they fire others, and fired Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator was the first shoe to drop, but there will be another report.
So even though Judge could muster an army in Week 12 to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, that’s hardly impressive offensively – as they’ve only collected 13 points and still look completely disjointed. towards that side. Judge remains a person to watch going forward, until/unless he achieves victory or convinces Mara that the problem is everyone but him. Next, he’ll face off against the hot Dolphins, led by another team on this list who seem to have figured everything out and want to keep the air conditioner directed at his seat – Flores has no interest in doing any favors for Judge anything during Week 13.
Next year giants: in Dolphin, at Chargers, versus Cowboys, at Eagles, at Bears
4. Matt Nagy, Bear
Nagy recently moved down this list and it’s not because Bear suddenly start winning games, but because they seem to become competitive – proof of how close they are (and should be, but that’s another story) do Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9. Until then, even if it’s lost Khalil Mack, the defense is showing up late in the hour and that gives the forwards a chance to win the game, but they are still struggling to do so. They eventually ended their five-game losing streak by beating the Detroit Lions in Week 12, but that wasn’t exactly a statement match for Andy Dalton and Co. – Dalton starts in case no one is injured Justin Fields.
The fact remains that Nagy is not a bad coach, at least not in general. But it often takes more than love to sustain a marriage, and things are getting a little thin in the Wind City air. Victory over the lowly Lions can be used as a foundation to build on, but a sequel to the game is unforgivable. Nagy will have to figure out how to shock the world with sadness for the Arizona Cardinals and then do the same with the Green Bay Packers before facing off against a team of Minnesota Vikings entering despair mode. Make no mistake, what happens (or doesn’t) at the end of the 2021 season will determine whether Nagy remains in Chicago in 2022.
Next year: with. Quantity, in Packers, compare to Vikings, at the Seahawks, vs. Giants
Went into the season with a lot of expectations after the first failed experiment at QB in the post-Cam Newton era – namely Teddy Bridgewater – Rhule is tasked with rebuilding Sam Darnold, and after starting the season with a 3-0 scoreline, the wheels will leave their former pick in the first round. Darnold once again looks like his own version of the Jets, and not a quarterback who can even carry a team from afar without the support of the whole world running back. Christian McCaffrey. Darnold was benched in a heavy loss to Judge and the Giants in Week 7, and the Panthers went on a four-game losing streak that was only broken with a Week 8 win last week. Atlanta Falcons, but the Panthers started a new one and in embarrassing style.
Their loss to the New England Patriots was horrendous, as the Darnolds proved to be an irreversible disaster. With Darnold now sidelined, Rhule phoned (literally) Newton to reunite with the Panthers, and things got off to a solid start with an upset win in Arizona before a two-game losing streak hit. . Newton may need more time to absorb the Rhule system, but that’s not such a luxury, and pulling a struggling Newton in a massive loss to Flores and the Dolphins in Week 12 only saw PJ Walker No pitch hit the ground, intercepted once and only 5 out of 10 of his passes were completed. Rhule is 10-18 in his first 28 games as NFL head coach, and his picks at QB continue to plague the club.

2. Urban Meyer, Jaguar
You can’t overstate Meyer’s win over the Buffalo Bills, having kept just 9 points in the process, but it feels like it happened a month ago. Oh, it happened, and the Jaguars lost three in a row to fall 2-9 into the season in Meyer’s first year – something that was as controversial as it was a pity when watching opened. Whatever Meyer can do wrong after joining the Jacksonville Jaguars this season, he’s either done, is doing or will likely finish before the season.
The Ohio party controversy is another matter, but the turmoil began with the immediate hiring, defense, and firing of the Iowa strength coach and the dispatch of Chris Doyle — a man with a history of alleged division of money. racism against him. Things continue to spiral out of control, but having now won two of the last three and one of those wins a crushing defeat to an AFC leader, Meyer has slipped down from the top spot. number 1 on this list. However, after another poor performance in Week 12, it will be very difficult for owner Shad Kahn to continue selling the product being brought into the field by Meyer.
Next year: in Rams, at Titans, versus Texans, at Jets, at Patriots
1. David Culley, Texans
It sure feels great to experience disappointment against the Tennessee Titans in Week 11, but Culley’s smile was short-lived. The Texans went from the top to beat a Super Bowl The opponent lost to the lowly New York Jets, and that keeps Culley at the top of this list to this day. He was able to find a fire outlet on this list after an impressive win to open the regular season, but the Texans are once again back on their terrible path. It’s not entirely his fault, as he didn’t have a defender midfield Tyrod Taylor since last week 2 loss Cleveland Browns due to injury.
But with Taylor spending most of this season on the bench due to injury, it was Culley’s job to coach the next player to win games, and that simply didn’t happen. Texans fell eight consecutively, and showed no sign of life before they were upset over the Titans. They were attacked by nearly every team they faced, and while they hoped Taylor’s return from the injured reserves would help, they were wrong – the Dolphins sent them home with a another messy loss in Week 9. Culley said a few weeks ago his team “needs a boost,” and it was disappointing when the person tasked with figuring out how to deliver said boost had yet to do so. that.
