New York jewellery retailing matriarch Helene Fortunoff handed away on Nov. 8 in Miami on the age of 88. The reason for loss of life was non-COVID-19 respiratory sickness.
Fortunoff was forward of her time: She was born in 1933 and graduated from New York College within the ’50s with a level in enterprise administration. It was there that she met her future husband, Alan Fortunoff, at school.
Helene joined the Fortunoff household enterprise — then principally targeted on housewares and furnishings — and established an in-house jewellery division for the corporate in 1957. She grew the corporate’s popularity in jewellery from scratch, pushing a crew of retailers to journey around the globe to supply unusual designs so as to construct status for the Fortunoff model.
In 2003, commerce publication Nationwide Jeweler named Fortunoff the twenty fourth largest fine jewelry retailer within the U.S. — with solely 5 jewellery departments beneath its belt.
Helene and Alan Fortunoff had six youngsters collectively, and he handed away in 2000. In 2006, she married Robert Grossman, and so they moved to Florida after her retirement.
