Doctor Who: Flux – the current season of the sci-fi show consists of six miniseries – came to a conclusion this Sunday, but the good news is that we won’t have to wait long until the Doctor returns to the screens. Fans can look forward to WhoThis New Year’s Day annual winter special, with the title and premise of the episode revealed alongside this first look promo, which you can check out in the video above.

Yes, after a brief cameo in Flush Finally, the Lord of Time’s oldest enemies are back to steal the limelight in the upcoming special, titled “Eve of the Daleks.” As the trailer makes clear, the twist this time around is that the Doctor and her friends will have to come face to face with the evil chili peppers while trapped in a time loop. Correct, Which doctor? finally doing one Groundhog’s Day-style set. How did it take them so long?

Joining regular artists Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill and John Bishop for “Eve” are guest stars Aisling Bea (Home Sweet Home Alone) and Adjani Salmon. Bea plays Sarah, who owns and operates the ELF archive, while Salmon plays Nick, a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. This time, however, things turned out a little differently, as Sarah and Nick found themselves joining forces with the time-traveling trio to fight the Daleks.

With Flush Even so, The Thirteenth Age of Doctors is officially just three more episodes to go, including this special one. Two more, including one that will be released as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations, will take place in late 2022. The third will see Whittaker reincarnated as The fourteenth doctor is unknown. Showrunner Chris Chibnall will also depart with his female lead, with former EP Russell T. Davies returning to lead the show once more.
