New World Developers: ‘We were wrong’ regarding controversial end-game device changes

New World of It’s been struggling for the past few months since its launch, and while the game isn’t as dead as many people think, it’s experiencing some major growing pains. One major source of controversy is the endgame device changes that Amaozn has made. In response to the feedback, the development team detailed what they were doing to address the concerns, acknowledging that it was “obvious” the team was wrong in its approach to them.
The main source of controversy came from the news earlier this week as part of PTR’s note about the controversial change to the High Water Mark system. This change will cause the current system to be renamed “Expertise” and instantly nerf the player.
In response to feedback from the community, the developers posted an update on the official forums, talking about the changes and how it will be approached from now on in the future. The group began to admit that they were “wrong” in their approach to change.
In response to the changes, Amazon has announced that it won’t be touching any crafting gear, quest loot, or anything purchased from Faction stores.
“Before diving in, I’d like to make it clear that we try not to degrade the power of players in the world (except in cases of bug fixes and imbalance issues),” the developer post development Zin_Ramu wrote. “The rest of this post details how we got there while preserving the benefits of the Expert and Plaster systems.”
They continued:
“Once these changes are implemented, the Gear Score scaling will only apply to items sold or traded after that patch. So any items obtained prior to this patch will not be affected. affected or reduced in any way. When we think about it more, nerfs for existing players are just unacceptable and we won’t do anything about it. I thought it was only temporary and it was acceptable to come up with a new path to regain that power with Gypsum, but obviously we were wrong.”
As a result, Amazon believes this will provide players with “alternative ways to arm themselves if they don’t want to participate in the Expertise system.” Zin_Ramu also talks about the importance of crafting as the system won’t touch crafting devices, so can have a positive impact on the economy.
However, Amazon admits that players who haven’t reached level 60 may feel that New world has become “harder”, though they are hoping the new Gypsum coin introduced with the Expertise system can help offset some of that.
