New Shang-Chi feature film shows how Simu Liu was trained for acting
A new episode of Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings released by Marvel Studios shows Simu Liu practicing for his role.
Complete the role of the main character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a life changing experience for Simu Liu, as the actor has revealed in several previous interviews. A new film has now offered a look at how he trained for the film and could portray the role of the first Asian superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Videos shared by Marvel Studios on their social media channels and show Liu’s behind-the-scenes footage on set Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. NS actor mentioned Shang-Chi is “the experience of a lifetime” and, along with director Destin Daniel Cretton and co-star Awkwafina, takes viewers on a journey through his practice.
The one-minute video shows Liu practicing for some NS Shang-Chi action sequence alongside professionals and stuntmen as he learns the fight choreography, an integral part of the film. “A lot of the physical intensity of the training he went through really reflected the character,” Cretton is heard saying of Liu’s efforts. He believes Liu worked hard enough to fully own Shang-Chi’s character.
Martial arts, tai chi, and wushu are some of the fighting styles incorporated in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which makes it quite unique compared to other MCU projects. Before the movie was released, Cretton revealed that the action sequences of the film are inspired by some of Jackie Chan’s movies. Even though the character doesn’t have any particular superpowers for much of the movie, Shang-Chi is strong and quick enough to defeat some of his opponents.
This feature was released as part of the home release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with the film coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 30, it’s one of many additional clips fans can watch as part of the home release, including extras content, deleted scenes, a fun Shang-Chi reeland many short feature films that provide insight into the production of the famous Marvel film.
