New Season of Bungo Stray Dogs Anime Announced

New season of Kafka Asagiri’s supernatural manga collection set to simulcast on Crunchyroll because it airs in Japan.


A brand new season of Bungo Stray Canines has been green-lit, the anime’s official Twitter account revealed on Sunday. Crunchyroll confirmed the news, saying that the brand new season can be simulcast because it airs in Japan.

Director Takuya Igarashi is slated to return, as is character designer Nobuhiro Arai and author Yoji Enokido. Studio Bones will proceed to animate the collection and the primary forged will return to reprise their roles.

Kafka Asagiri’s manga follows the adventures of Nakajima Atsushi, an orphan who joins a supernatural detective company after discovering he has some unusual powers of his personal. The collection is revealed by Kadokawa Shoten and began serialization in 2012 with a total of 21 collected volumes.


A light-weight novel adaptation revealed beneath the Kadokawa Beans Bunko imprint started serialization in 2014, whereas the manga has impressed three spin-offs. The primary, Bungo Stray Canines: Woof!, started serialization in 2015 and runs within the Katokawa Shoten Younger Ace Up imprint. The second, Bungo Stray Canines: Lifeless Apple, debuted in 2018 and in addition runs within the Younger Ace Up imprint. The third, Bungo Stray Canines: BEAST, has been serialized within the Month-to-month Shonen Ace journal since 2019.

Studio Bones has labored on the anime adaptation since 2016. The collection’ first season aired during the Spring 2016 season, and a second season adopted within the Fall. After a three-year hiatus, the anime returned with a 3rd season in April 2019. An anime adaptation of the spin-off manga, Woof! Aired throughout the 2021 Winter season and ran for 12 episodes.

A movie adaptation of the Lifeless Apple spin-off was launched in 2018, with Bones returning to work on the challenge. A live-action adaptation of the BEAST spin-off manga is ready to launch on January 7, 2022, with director Koichi Sakamoto on the helm.

Yen Press publishes the manga, gentle novel, and manga spin-offs in English. Crunchyroll owns the streaming rights to the primary three seasons, Woof! Sequence and the Lifeless Apple movie.
