New Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer introduces Diamond and Pearl Clan, Ginkgo Guild

A trailer released today by The Pokémon Company shared new information about Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ characters and their clan branches.

Arceus’ The Hisui area is home to the Diamond Family and the Pearl Family, presumably named after Pokémon Diamond and Pearl since they and Arceus share the same area. The Diamond Clan is led by a man called Adaman, while the Pearl Clan is led by a woman named Irida. It is not yet clear what role these clans will play in the player’s journey, but each clan seems to have various outposts throughout Hisui. There are also members of the lower clans who act as guardians of the various wild Pokémon and their habitats.

The trailer also introduces the Ginkgo Guild, a group of traveling merchants that players can purchase items from. They are led by a man named Ginter, who sells berries and what appears to be plants as crafting materials. His purchase screen displays a number of never-before-seen items for purchase, including a vivichoke, a ladybug, and a sword, all of which are edible plants that the player’s Pokémon can eat. Sword helmets can also be used to craft “Aux Powers”, the use of which is still unknown.

One of the Ginkgo Guild’s merchants is Volo, a type of con man who has a lot of interaction with players. In one scene, he sneaks up behind the player, causing them to laugh and laugh about it. However, very few Volo were shown. It’s unclear what role he will play in the story, if any.

Pokémon Legend: Arceus will be released on January 28, 2022.
