New Expansion Returns to Alterac Valley

Hearthstone known for providing a goofy, alternative lens through which fans World of Warcraft can experience the characters and places it has explored over the years. Hearthstone just announced the next card expansion pack, Broken in Alterac valley, set in the memorable Battleground from World of Warcraft’s initial launch.

From Hearthstone The seasonal system operates on an annual release cycle, complete with its own set of fantastical horoscopes. This cycle, known as the Gryphon Year, is entering its third and final phase of expansion with Broken in Alterac valley, which means this is the last major card issue added before the start of a new cycle.

Broken in Alterac valley itself will host 135 new cards to collect, as well as some new mechanics. Mercenaries – unique characters for Hearthstone introduced in Year of the Gryphon Forging in the factory set – has maxed out and now comes as a powerful Hero card with powerful Battles and upgraded Hero Powers. At least two new mechanics are being introduced, including Objectives that give three-turn summoner spells to those who claim them, and Honor Kill, a card effect that activates if the player kills an enemy minion during the turn theirs with accurate damage.

Hearthstone experienced a delayed release schedule due to lawsuits against Blizzard in July, leading to the previous stage of Mine mini sets were relegated only recently. However, it seems Hearthstone is getting back on track, toward a good end to the Gryphon Year. In addition to a new mini-series, seasonal events and solo experiences, Hearthstone is planning updates to the Battleground, Duel, Mercenaries, and Tavern Brawl modes, as well as a balance update for the Traditional mode and its cards.

Player-to-player content fans in World of Warcraft was hit with a wave of nostalgia when it was announced about Broken in Alterac valley. As Alterac Valley was one of the first two Battlefields in Vanilla OH, almost everyone who has played the MMO giant has at least one or two stories about their experiences in the large PvP area. If iconic locations, characters, and references weren’t enough to draw players in, the story mode, single, Book of Mercenaries has been received with near-universal and human admiration. Players are eager to see how the characters’ stories culminate. is the final part of their story arc in Broken in Alterac valley.

Unfortunately for Blizzard, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker was delayed to December 7th – the same day as both Broken in Alterac valley and Legion Timewalking in World of Warcraft. Amidst the high competition, and continuing difficulties Blizzard faces due to sexual harassment claims and lawsuits, activity in the upcoming card expansion may be smaller Hearthstone can hope.
