New AMD RX 6500 XT, unsurprisingly, elusive

When AMD announced its now-released budget GPU, some might have cast doubt on its availability, and unfortunately that seems to be the case.

Although there have been whispers about it for a while, but only a few weeks ago AMD announced that they will be releasing a new low-cost graphics card, the RX 6500 XT, which will be a welcome relief for those who don’t like a high-end product. With it now released, GPU being compared to Nvidia’s RTX 3050, is also touted as an entry-level product. The inevitable, however, seems to have happened, as the tech downturn continues to deepen and gamers struggle to procure hardware.

VIDEO GAME OF THE DAY

In a recent report from Tom’s Hardware, several websites showed that the new budget AMD cards are now out of stock, and some retailers, which have some cards, are pricing them at twice the MSRP, if not more. At the time of writing, sites like Newegg.com are showing the 6500 XT is currently out of stock due to “high demand,” while sites like eBay list the card anywhere from $286 to nearly $690 dollars. Even places like Amazon and the UK-based Scan site are showing very limited displays because they are out of stock.

Suppose, I think RX 6500 XT is supposed to be $200, it just indicates how much markup is being added to modern graphics cards in these uncertain times. It seems, once again, that PC users are metaphorically bypassing online stores empty-handed, or paying higher odds just to get one. It seems like a shame, especially at the budget price point. However, it’s entirely possible that the low cost of a new graphics card, even if it doesn’t have particularly high specs, is what causes websites to run out of them almost instantly.

It shows demand remains sky-high as the deficit continues to widen. With chip shortage is expected to continue until 2023, especially amid the new Omicron variant, things like this will almost certainly continue to happen. Let’s hope that the “red team” and its product suppliers will soon match supply with demand.

Above all, AMD also have to deal with the fact that Nvidia is ready to launch its RTX 3050, with the “green team” promising more supply at launch. Whether this materializes or not is anyone’s guess, but there’s no denying that the market isn’t at its best and hasn’t been around for a while, so it’s entirely possible Nvidia will face many difficulties as his opponent.
