Netflix & Universal Anime Pilgrim Adaptation In Development

Series creator Brian Lee O’Malley will serve as executive producer and scriptwriter for the anime.

Netflix and Universal Studio Group’s Universal Content Productions are developing an anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit work. Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series. The Hollywood Reporter first reported it.

O’Malley will write and serve as executive producer alongside BenDavid Grabinski, who is best known for leading Are you afraid of the Dark? series. O’Malley and Grabinski will also act as hosts for the series.

Science SARU will anime animation coming, with Catering CEO Eunyoung Choi as producer, and Abel Gônora directing the series. Tokyo-based studio is founded by Choi and Masaaki Yuasa in 2013, and is best known for Devilman Crybaby, Get your hands off the Eizouken!. Most recent studio contributed Akakiri and T0-B1 Disney short film Star Wars: Visions series.

O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novel ran from 2004-2010. The The novel has been published by Oni Press, and later republished by Four Estate. O’Malley won the Harvey Award for his work on the series in 2007, followed by the Eisner Award in the “Funniest Publishing” category in 2010.
