Navjot Singh Sidhu meets PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar, says he is elder brother

Conference Leader Navjot Singh Sidhu meet Punjab Pradesh Parliamentary Committee manager Sunil Jakhar on Saturday, amid growing speculation about whether the party will appoint the cricket politician as its next head of state. After the meeting, which lasted more than half an hour, Sidhu said Jakhar was his brother and guiding force.

Jakhar, in turn, describes Sidhu as a man of power.

Sidhu left his residence in Patiala and arrived at Jakhar’s residence in Panchkula, about 65 kilometers away, at around 10:45 a.m., an aide said.

The meeting comes amid simmering tensions in the Punjab Parliament following differences between Ministers Amarinder Singh and Sidhu.

On Friday, Sidhu met the party chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi in an apparent attempt to strike a truce formula for state unit reform.

Also present at the meeting were AICC Punjab Secretary General Harish Rawat and Rahul Gandhi.

Sources said reports of Sidhu’s altitude upset Amarinder Singh and he wrote to Sonia Gandhi expressing strong displeasure over the development.
