The fighting game genre has some excellent entries, like the fan favorite Super Smash Bros. which hit the stage in 1999. Other crossover fighting games have tried to knock the Nintendo-released series off its pedestal with similar formats over the years, but with mixed success. Now it’s Player First Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s turn MultiVersusa free-to-play fighting game featuring a variety of characters from Warner Bros. Discovery-owned franchises.
Because of its free-to-play nature MultiVersus will regularly release seasons of new content with character skins, emotes, and challenges for players to complete. While Player First Games hasn’t provided an overwhelming amount of information about what new content might be coming MultiVersus Going forward, the game is only in its open beta phase, so no doubt more details will be revealed in the coming months. There are already a few things players would like to see, from a wider range of characters to more stages inspired by some of the best in the world Super Smash Bros. Series.
The stages of MultiVersus
So far, players seemed happy with how MultiVersus‘ Open beta is ongoing, with characters like Batman, Harley Quinn and Finn the Human becoming popular choices. It’s still early days, of course, and it will be interesting to see what new content is added once Season 1 has launched. There will inevitably be a series of phases that emerge MultiVersus as new seasons and characters are released, but there are a few that players have already begun to get to grips with.
Matching the characters currently on the MultiVersus Roster, the game has a handful of themed stages that players might recognize by their respective traits, or that serve as cool reimaginings of areas from well-known shows and IPs. With stages like Batman’s Batcave, The Haunted Mansion seemed to pull right out of you Scooby Doo cartoon and the tree fort off adventure timethere are many aesthetically distinct areas for players to let off steam. While they all look different, none of them quite live up to the Hyrule Temple stage.
Why a Temple-Inspired Stage is Needed
While more stages will likely be added as the season progresses, and additions or updates could be brought to the existing arenas, most of them are fairly basic as it stands. The Haunted Mansion has sections that move throughout the games and other phases have their quirks, however MultiVersus needs its Hyrule Temple equivalent. This Smash Bros. Melee The stage was large, dwarfing most of the other combat areas on offer and giving free rein to various characters to unleash their moves rather than trying to navigate a cramped space.
It was a stage that wasn’t overloaded with gimmicks or movable characters – players simply had to face each other and use their own abilities to defeat their opponents, rather than relying on fast-moving landscapes or random events. But Hyrule Temple was by no means boring. It still had its own unique design, as well as many different areas and elevations that players could cleverly use to their advantage. Players could get creative or use the varied areas of the stage to hide and plan their attacks. MultiVersus already has some interesting phases, and players will be excited to see what else the developer will bring to the table, but a phase similar to Super Smash Bros.“The Hyrule Temple would be an excellent addition.
