CDC stresses risk to others as low

WASHINGTON (WVLA) – One week after a Texas man was confirmed to have monkey pox After traveling abroad, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tracking dozens of people who may have come into contact with him.
Since the initial diagnosis of monkeypox in Texas, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tracking “more than 200 individuals in 27 states and several other countries.”
The patient flew to Atlanta, Georgia on July 9 from Lagos, Nigeria, and then continued on to Dallas. He was admitted to a hospital in Dallas.
People who were observed or known to be around monkeypox patients or on the same flight as the man.
None of the individuals being monitored are considered high-risk and no additional cases have been found to date.
The CDC emphasizes that the risk to others is low.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, here are the signs and symptoms to watch out for:
The disease begins with:
- Fever
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Backache
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Chills
- Exhausted
- Within 1 to 3 days (sometimes longer) after the onset of fever, the patient develops a rash, which usually begins on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body.

Currently, there is no safe treatment for people who have had smallpox in monkeys.
According to the CDC, it has been more than 50 years since the first case of monkeypox was diagnosed.
