Mobile PlayStation Games Get Closer as Sony Patents New Controller

A new patent has been published by Sony Interactive Entertainment that seems to suggest that a new mobile-style controller is in the works, is a new handheld PlayStation device in the works?

The likelihood of a new PSP or PSVita is probably slim, but Sony CEO Jim Ryan has previously stated that the company will bring some first-party titles to mobile devices in the coming months. March 2022.

Many fans will probably know that Sony has recently gone deep into bringing many PlayStation exclusive titles like God of War, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawnand more for PC. It shows that the company is extremely interested in branching out their games for other devices than just their PlayStation console.

But if playing Sony titles on PlayStation or PC isn’t enough for you, the latest patent suggests it’s a lot easier to take your games on the go.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Patent New PlayStation Mobile Controller

As discovered by VGC, a new patent was recently published by Japan’s Sony Interactive Entertainment Division for what appears to be a portable-style controller.

The patented design can be seen in the image below and looks a lot like the PlayStation 4’s DualShock controller instead of the newer DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5.

The only difference that sets it apart from the original DualShock controller is the much larger touchpad/display at the center of the device. The patent’s description states that it is “the left and right hand grips that are held by the user’s left and right hands”. Meanwhile also includes “the shaft section can be tilted by the user and detect the tilt direction and amount of tilt of the shaft section”.

The details of how this controller will work are still unknown, but it will most likely use PlayStation’s Remote Play or Cloud features to stream your owned games to the device. .
