Marlins, Alcantara is working on the extension

Marlins about to extend 5 years, $55 million with pitching start Sandy Alcantara, Sports Grid’s Craig Mish report.

Alcantara, 26, is nowhere near free agency. He serves as a referee until after the 2024 season, but a move by the Marlins here would provide cost certainty over the next three seasons and would then buy back the first two years of his freedom. It would be a big step up from Kim Ng’s office to lock up a beginner like this.

Alcantara is 9-15 with 3.19 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 201 strikes in 205 2/3 innings last season. He’s an All-Star in 2019 and has a 3.48 ERA (122 ERA+) in 72 appearances over the past three seasons. He’s pretty well built as a quality, frontline starting player.

Dodgers look at Suzuki

Japanese star midfielder Seiya Suzuki will be recruited MLB . Teams this season (scout report here). The Dodgers seem to be among the interested teams, reports David Vassegh of Sports Net LA.

Right now, the Dodgers can have a full playground with Mookie betting, Cody Bellinger and AJ Pollock.

It’s also a quick reminder that the Dodgers won’t be the only team interested in Suzuki. He hit .319 / .436 / .644 with 38 hosts in 131 games in the NPB last season.

Giant interested in Cobb

The giants are “pressing hard” to start the free agent Alex Cobb, reported Susan Slusser about Chronicles of San Francisco. She added that Cobb and the giants “look like a couple.”

Cobb, 34, won 8-3 with 3.76 ERA (119 ERA+), 1.26 WHIP and 98 strikes in 93 1/3 innings last season for the Angels.

The giants seem to have only Logan Webb as a certainty in their rotation towards 2022. Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto, who combined for the 112 that started last season, are all free agents. The Yankees traded utility man Tyler Wade Angels for a player to be named later or to consider cash, the club has announced.

Wade, 26, has spent his entire five-year career in the majors with the Yankees, but was assigned for assignment last week. In 264 games, he scored .212 / .298 / .307 (66 OPS+). He stole 17 chances out of 23 last season and hit a career-best .354-based rate in 2021. He spends most of his time defending second-base. but also played in deficit, third base and all three outfield positions.

Guardian trading midfielder, pitcher

The Guardians have changed midfielders Harold Ramirez for the Cubs to consider cash, the team announced.

Ramirez, 27, hit the .271/.308/.405 (90 OPS+) mark with 41 doubles and 18 own goals in 818 career appearances over three seasons. He spent time in all three positions off the field with the majority of corners. The Cubs likely won’t finish their exterior tweaks before 2022, but right now starters seem to Ian Happ, Rafael Ortega and Jason Heyward with Ramirez joining Michael Hermasillo and Alfonso Rivas like depth.

In another move, right-handed pitcher JC Mejia has been switched from Defender to Brewer, both teams have announced.

Mejia, 25, is 1-7 with an 8.25 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 47 strike with 24 walks in 52 innings of the third-quarter last season. He has a 6.75 ERA in 25 1/3 innings in Triple-A and this is his first season past High-A. This means, he’s basically a project for Brewers. In the past, they have succeeded in developing pitchers of this style.

Brewer Sign up for backup

Brewers and Fishermen Pedro Severino agreed on a year-long, $1.9 million deal, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reporting.

Severino, 28, hit .248 / .308 / .383 with 11 own goals and 46 RBIs in 113 games last season with Orioles. He’s worth 0.9 WAR, according to baseball-reference.com.

When everything is stable, Brewers is set up with Omar Narvaez behind the disk, so Severino will act as a backup.

Ink Angel Loup

Angels on Monday announced that they signed leftist ruler Aaron Loup to a reported $17 million two-year deal. Loup, who turns 34 in December, is about to have a stellar season with the Mets. In 56 2/3 innings, Loup pitches to a 0.95 ERA with 57 hits against 16 unintentional walks. As for his career, he prides himself on a ERA + is 136 and the K/BB ratio is 3.19.
