MLB lockout is about economics. What needs to be fixed is sport.

It’s not hockey as a sport or the NHL as a league. What it is: a recognition of the reality that baseball, if not cared for, cared for and corrected, could be well on its way to becoming a niche sport. Hockey in the United States has many dedicated and passionate fan bases in both traditional and non-traditional markets. However, it is rare to advance the national sports conversation the way the NFL and NBA can. Baseball is coming to an end in the same place, and how the game is played on the field is a much bigger factor than how billions of revenue is split between players and owners.
