NS Angel of Los Angeles are “finishing” bringing their freelancers closer, Raisel Iglesias, under a four-year contract, reporting Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The deal will cost $58 million, reporting Jon Morosi of the MLB . Network.

Iglesias joined the final season of the Angels in a trade from Red and had one of the best years of his rather stellar career. He made 34 of 39 saves with 2.57 ERAs, 0.93 WHIPs and 103 hits in 12 walks. He got better as the season went on, blowing away two of his first four chances and then closing his last 13 saves.

This is a huge victory for the Angels on two fronts. First of all, if it weren’t for the return of Iglesias, the end of the great tree would have looked rather thin. Righty Mike Mayers and favorable Aaron Loup would make great setups for Iglesias, but the puzzle wouldn’t really fit together without him as the final piece.

Second, the selection of who closes in the free agency this holiday season is pretty slim. Kenley Jansen and Iglesias are the two best options. There’s something to be said for familiarity with such a volatile position, so keeping Iglesias was the right decision.

Angels so far added Noah Syndergaard and potentially Michael Lorenzen Their rotation already included Shohei Ohtani, Patrick Sandoval and Jose Suarez. We know that they have promoted beginners from the top level, such as Max Scherzer, so maybe there’s still room to add there with someone like Marcus Stroman.

Regardless, simply receive Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon Returning to full strength for the whole season would be a huge upgrade, and the Angels have also been connected in rumors with some players in positions in free agency.

The Angels finished last season 77-85.
