Hours after the fall of the Supreme Court Roe v. calfThe Missouri Attorney General, who effectively ended abortion rights for about 40 million women and girls nationwide, used the term “Third World” to describe not the Supreme Court ruling but the Justice Department’s response to the protests, that took place because of this.
Eric Schmitt, who on Friday approved a “trigger bill” immediately banning all abortions in the state except in the case of a medical emergency, complained to Tucker Carlson later that night about the potential for violence following the verdict — something the Department of Homeland Security said warned against it.
“I think what you’re seeing now with this ‘Night of Rage’ that’s been talked about – the Justice Department has no interest in prosecuting it. They didn’t do anything about it,” Schmitt said.
“We saw an assassination attempt on a Supreme Court Justice. It will continue like this,” predicted Schmitt. “The Justice Department is far more interested in baiting the FBI on parents who show up for Patriot Act school board meetings than it is in arresting people who intimidate Supreme Court justices. This is from the Banana Third World Republic.”
Schmitt’s criticism of the DOJ echoes other right-wing grievances about the department, including those made by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) earlier in the week. After predicting that the protesters were spurred to action roe “We’re going to try to use political force to advance our goals,” Cruz added, “I reasonably expect the attorney general to riot alongside them because this Justice Department has become so politicized.”
