The Minnesota Twins welcomed returning starter Mitch Garver off the injury list, rehabilitated him and started him Monday night in a doubles game in Chicago against the White Sox.

Garver, in the past 39 games due to a groin injury sustained on June 1 in Baltimore, caught and beat sixth to the White Sox.

The Twins made a spot on the roster for Garver by selecting catcher Ben Rortvedt for Triple-A St. Paul.

Garver, 30, is a career .251 offensive player with 48 home runs and 137 RBIs in five years. He hit the ball .224 (26 for 116) with eight doubles, eight home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs in 41 games this season before his injury.

He won 4 for 16 in four detox games for St. Paul.

Rortvedt, 23, hit 0.129 (9 to 70) with two hosts and five RBIs in 30 games for Minnesota this season.

Rortvedt played one half as a defensive substitute in Monday’s first game, the Twins’ 3-2, eight-round win.
