Million Dollar Listing’s Tyler Whitman talks sobriety

Tyler Whitman is embracing his drunkenness.

While “Million Dollar Listing New York” fans won’t see the 35-year-old real estate agent give up alcohol this season, he’s learned a lot from reminiscing about his journey on the internet. TELEVISION.

“I know when I’m stuck and when I’m not on the show, and for me, there’s such a clear distinction,” he told Page Six in a new interview. “Basically everything before the pandemic was my darkest days with alcohol. There are times when the producers and no one I’m filming know, but I know that I get really drunk on the actual scenes, and it’s hard for me to see that.”

Whitman said that some of the most difficult scenes he had to watch were the ones where he was “annoyed” with co-star Kirsten Jordan.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ he admits. “I remember I was nervous before, and I was drinking, and I was like, ‘It’s like a hangover, you know, Tyler’s reaction is immature.’ And now I see myself, you know, in my sanity, I’ve got a lot more ground. I am more patient. I am more confident. I have what I call a sober response, which is where I stand up for myself, but with dignity and respect. “

Whitman recalls watching the July 15 episode in which he made Fredrik Eklund a gentle offer of one of his possessions, with pride in the way he handled the situation soberly. Apple.

“I was like, ‘I stood up for my client, I did what was right, I wasn’t mean, and I wasn’t rude. I’m professional, but I’m confident, I’m heard and understood,” he said. “And I said, ‘That’s who I want to be in this world. Like, that’s the life I want to live. ‘ It was a gift of this show to me personally. “

Now, Whitman has formed an unlikely bond with Eklund, 43, during their sober journeys as Eklund revealed on Instagram in March that he was sober for 160 days.

“The only person I really talked to well was Frederik,” he said. “Frederik also quit drinking, and he announced it, I guess, at a similar point in time to when I did, and neither of us knew that each other had quit until we were together. I posted it.”

Whitman explained that while they often film scenes together, they never reveal personal details to each other.

“It was nice to be able to connect with him about that,” he said, noting that he recently received a text message from Eklund.

“He was checking in, and he said, ‘How’s your sobriety?’ And, you know, it’s great,” Whitman said. “It was a pleasure to share that with him.”

NS Founder of Triplemint explains that he drank alcohol every day during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic with a friend he was quarantining – until he realized he couldn’t keep up with his routine.

“I came home with two bottles of wine on April 15, and I drank both bottles in tears, and that was the last drink I had,” he said.

Whitman notes that despite the “really tough first months” and “excessive cravings,” he feels better mentally and physically today.

“It was so magical,” he said. “I struggled with drinking. It didn’t really start until I turned 30, and then it gradually started. And then by the time I was 32, 33 years old, it all went out of control. But because I’m very active and I don’t have the worst hangover, I still show up to work. I did not mean to. And so I removed it. And I think because of that, I didn’t put a lot of effort into fixing this very conscious problem. I was very aware of it. But it’s like my dirty little secret.”

“Million Dollar Listing New York” airs Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
