Microsoft’s GitHub is down for a few hours

Microsoft is enforcing a holiday this weekend for developers after its wholly owned subsidiary GitHub started experiencing problems a few hours ago.
Developers are reporting a 500 error, and GitHub’s status page shows most services are now degraded.
The page also notes that GitHub is investigating the issue but has not provided much other information.
Microsoft purchased the GitHub code repository for $7.5 billion in October 2018, and some users say the service has become more unreliable since then. However, GitHub has continued to see strong growth under Microsoft’s stewardship, growing from less than 40 million users at purchase to over 73 million users.
See the latest on GitHub’s status page here.
